With a background in vineyard construction and management and a deep desire to respect the nature of the Alto Chianti, the Fronti family as been in the Chianti region for generations. As is often the story all over Italy, the family grew grapes for themselves and sold any extra in bulk. And after graduating with a degree in Enology and spending time as a sales manager for other estates, Angela convinced her family to let her take the helm. It may not have been easy for this energetic lady to convince her father & uncle but once they saw her passion they were convinced!
Committed to making wine true to traditions and keeping with sustainable viticulture, Angela has become a rising star in Chianti. She is a huge fan of Elisabetta Fagiouli of Montenidoli and Matilde Poggie of Le Fraghe - they are fans of her as well. In fact, we met Angela after Matilde sent her to us. We are grateful!!
The vineyards are 15+ year old vines with 5000 vines per hectare. The limestone rich soil is planted with Sangiovese and other indigenous varieties for Chianti Classico and the 3.78 hectares vineyard faces NW. Located at the heart of the historic Chianti zone between Castellina and Radda on a hilltop surrounded by woods and at an altitude of 450 to 520 meters, the grapes can retain an acidity that is essential to these amazing wines - even in the warmer years.
While Istine may be a "new" estate, the vineyards and the winemaking family is well-established. The group of high-altitude small vineyards around the town of Radda allow Angela to coax structure & substance and to produce a wine that is deep and elegant with a charm that allows Angela's touch to shine through!
We are proud to share her wines with you!!
